Hanna Mattila's Prayers exhibition at Linnasmäki gallery 9 January 2024–25 February 2025

There are times in life when you have to get away from the noisy world, to listen to your innermost being. In the quiet space of creativity, one can be completely whole. Completely open, transparent. I then strongly experience humanity, femininity, motherhood, freedom, the voice of my Creator, motherland, sadness and gratitude. From such moments, which are like a prayer to me, the pictures that are on display in the Linnasmäki gallery have been born.

When I was a little girl, I thought that the world is getting better all the time, that Human Civilization is the inevitable development direction of evolution. It has been crushing to grow up and realize that this is not really the case. A woman's body and a woman's freedom have been controlled throughout human history and still today in different parts of the world. The misogynistic attitude is on the rise again,
while people should support each other more than ever, as climate change, wars, extreme thoughts and actions destroy our living space and our loved ones on the planet.
That's why the essence of a woman is the most beautiful symbol of freedom and peace. Nudity symbolizes freedom and innocence, courage and purity. A woman's body is symbolically the life-sustaining force itself, which is the enabler of all life. The womb: the mythical primordial egg. Although at the same time a completely ordinary human body, vulnerable and fragile, sensitive, strong, changing throughout life.

I have a lot of respect for women who are fighting in the world for women's rights, for the future of all little girls and little boys. And the men who fight
alongside them. In his own voice. They are real life superheroes. WomanLifeFreedom. It has tremendous power. My tears and prayers are with them. Towards love, freedom and
mutual respect.
